Sept. 17 -- An off-duty Chicago Fire Department captain died early Monday morning in an apparent drowning at a harbor in Jackson Park on the South Side, officials said.

Capt. Darryl Moore, 55, was attending an end of summer party at the harbor with several boaters and apparently fell off a dock shortly after midnight, the officials said.

Divers searched the water for 90 minutes and recovered his body around 5 a.m., the fire department said in a tweet. Fellow firefighters saluted as an ambulance brought his body to the medical examiner's office.

Moore worked on Truck 40 in the Beverly neighborhood. He joined the department in 1986, the department said.
