A former Georgia firefighter and actor from "The Walking Dead" died from cancer.

Dango Nguyen, 48, had been a firefighter with the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department for nearly 20 years, according to an online post by the department. He was sergeant with the department, and he left to pursue a career as an actor and stuntman.

"But, once you're a firefighter, you're always part of our family. And Dango was a very well known member of our family," the department's Facebook post stated.

Nguyen appeared in seven episodes of the third season of "The Walking Dead" and acted in episodes of Cinemax's "Banshee" and ABC's "Macgyver," according to his IMDb page. He also did stunts on those shows, as well as the movie "Mile 22."

"He will always be remembered for his physical and mental strength," the department stated. "He was an aggressive and tenacious firefighter and first responder. He was also an excellent fire officer. He carried out his service to our community with a high level of pride in his craft, as well as a competitive spirit that made everyone else that he worked with better too."

"He touched many lives. We will all remember his quick wit, high energy, and unwavering determination. We all aspire to be 'Dango Strong'," the department added.
