Joe Chambers is being called a hero.

A brave local teen is talking about how he helped save a Philadelphia police officer from a burning car. The teenager and another man put their own lives at risk and pulled the officer to safety. FOX 29's Dave Kinchen spoke with one of the heroes on Sunday. "As soon as we got the cop out, it was already on fire," said 17-year-old Joe Chambers. The Ridley Park volunteer firefighter is credited with pulling Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Kimsey from the burning squad car moments after colliding with a black pick-up at 28th and Tasker in Grays Ferry Saturday evening. "We were watching "Cops" and we heard like a big bang," said Joe. That's when Joe says he ran to the injured office who was stuck in the burning car. "He was in shock a lot. He couldn't feel his legs. He couldn't move," he explained. "His door was like locked shut and it wouldn't open and there was people standing by watching, and I yelled over for someone to come help me because we had to get him out through the window." The fierce flames were growing by the second. "At the bottom of the car it was like on fire a little bit and once we got him like half way out the window the whole engine blew. It really started to catch fire," said Joe. Dante Johnson also jumped in. "We pulled the cop to the side. As we pulled the cop to the side he was like, 'Yeah I'm OK. Thank you, guys," said Dante. They pulled the unresponsive driver from the pick up to safety as well. And Joe says a bond was formed when he visited Officer Kimsey in his HUP hospital room. "You can't really describe the emotions. It was just like cheerful, happy, thankful. Just like everybody all around just said thank you," he said. And while he has training as a first responder, Joe says this was all on instinct. "I just did what I hope anybody else would have done. That's really it." Officer Kimsey is expected to be OK. He's should to be back at work within the next few days.
