Interim Chief at Wellington, KS, Fire and EMS Department Brings Years of Experience

April 24, 2024
James Woydziak has served as chief in Emporia, Manhattan and most recently, Butler County.

The interim Wellington fire chief knows his way around not only the station but the town and local areas.

That's because James Woydziak started his career in the fire service there in 1971. He's also served as a chief in Emporia, Manhattan, and most recently, Butler County.

The veteran fire service veteran is replacing Tim Robben, who resigned after he came under fire about lacking fire service credentials. Several firefighters quit shortly after he took over as chief.

Woydziak told KSNW he is looking forward to turning things around.

“The fire service has a long history of traditions and things, and I can see why people felt strongly about that,” Woydziak said adding that he's looking forward to steering the department in the right direction.

“I’ve been in a lot of fire departments. I’m aware of the history and culture, and I’m going to try and work on the budget, get some people hired, and get us back on track."

Woydziak will be assisting the town in its search for a new chief.
