FDNY firefighters walk through waist-high water to a second-alarm fire in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn on Oct. 29, 2012, during Hurricane Sandy. The high tide and a storm surge flooded the area one block from the bay.

Dedication: This month’s Firehouse® is dedicated to Lieutenant/EMT John L. Echternach Jr., 54, of the Boones Mill, VA, Volunteer Fire Department; Lieutenant David R. Chew Jr., 30, of the Bloxom, VA, Volunteer Fire Company; Fire Chief Jon Tibbetts, 59, of the Sandoval County, NM, Fire Department; and Firefighter Antonio Rodriquez, 49, of the Yonkers, NY, Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, July 2012; and to Firefighter Jim Reardon, 51, of the Fire Academy of North Dakota in Mandan, ND, who died in the line of duty, August 2012.
