DETROIT --

It took two hours for Detroit fire firefighters to extinguish a blaze Monday afternoon at a custom cabinet shop on the city's west side.

The fire started in the paint area of the MCI Cabinet shop on Weaver Road and the Southfield Service Drive.

Firefighters issued a level 3 hazmat situation when chemicals such as wood, lacquer and paint ignited.

Employees told Local 4 they saw several explosions inside the shop.

The two employees inside at the time of the fire were able to make it out safely.

The custom cabinet shop, which has been in business for over 30 years, was completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
