HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Hopkinsville firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that left a 63-year-old woman dead.

Mary Virginia Thomptson was found in the back of her home Monday after firefighters extinguished the blaze, a fire report said.

A neighbor, Victor Pollard, said Thomptson came out of the burning house, but went back in when he left to call 911. Some neighbors said she might have thought her grandson was still inside the house.

Christian County Coroner Randy Graham said smoke inhalation was the cause of death.
