NORTHLAKE, Ill. (AP) -- Two fire trucks collided Tuesday at a suburban intersection west of Chicago, killing one firefighter and injuring two others.

One of the injured was hospitalized in serious condition. There was no immediate word on the other's condition.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. at the intersection on the border of the suburbs of Northlake and Melrose Park. A witness said the trucks were from Northlake and the suburb of Stone Park. Broadcast reports said both vehicles were headed to a garage fire.

Authorities did not return repeated telephone calls Tuesday night.

Witness Cecil Graham, 39, said one fire truck landed on its side. Firefighters involved in the crash had to pull at least one colleague from the truck, which caught fire, and squelch the flames, he said.
