South Carolina Firefighter Dies After Responding To Fire

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Kenneth Eugene Sterling of 605 Ethel Road, died Saturday, April 10, 2004. He was the son of David Eugene and Brazella Snoddy Sterling.

He was a 1978 graduate of Greer High School, member of the 1978 State Championship of Greer High School and graduated from Denmark College. Mr. Sterling was an EMS Firefighter for the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department, Greenville City Fire Department, BMW Fire Department and the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport. He received a Distinguished Service Medal of Honor Award in April 2002. He was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Briana Sterling of Florence, SC; two sons, Drew Austin Sterling of Florence, SC, Quentin David Sterling of Atlanta, GA; five sisters, Dianne (Barry) Cook and Mary (Calvin) Davis, both of Taylors, SC, Annette Sterling, Elaine Sterling and Patricia Sterling, all of Greer, SC; one brother, Frankie (Mary) Sterling of Taylors, SC; a devoted companion, Earleen Simpson of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Naranda Miller of Spartanburg, SC; son, Naran Miller of Spartanburg, SC; and one grandson, Memphis Black of Spartanburg, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at St. Mark United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Morris Waymar will officiate. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 p.m. Thursday.
