A tanker carrying natural gas has overturned and exploded on a major highway in central China's Hunan province, killing five people, including three firefighters.

State broadcasters have reported that the tanker leaked around 20 tonnes of the liquid gas, while the exact cause of the accident is still being investigated.

Seven vehicles, including two fire trucks, were destroyed in the blast, with fifty people having to be evacuated from the highway.
