N.Y. Firefighter, 19, Dies After Fighting Chimney Fire

A 19-year-old firefighter died Saturday evening after going into distress at a chimney fire in Centerville Fire District.

A 19-year-old firefighter died Saturday evening after going into distress at a chimney fire in Centerville Fire District.

According to the newspaper Daily Freeman, Jack Rose, a firefighter with the Mount Marion Fire Department, who lives in Saugerties, responded to a mutual aid chimney fire in Centerville Saturday night. Fire was also found in the basement of the residence.

According to a news release from the Mount Marion Fire District, after Rose entered the home he “went into distress and was rescued from inside of the residence by fellow ffirefighters.”

Lifesaving measures were taken at the scene and Rose was transported to a hospital in Kingston were he was pronounced dead.

Investigators were called to the scene of the one-story house Sunday morning.
