AL Firefighter Injured Battling Paper Mill Fire

Mobile Fire-Rescue crews worked for hours in frigid temperatures to extinguish burning rows of paper stacked four bales high during the three-alarm fire.

An Alabama firefighter was injured during a three-alarm paper mill fire early Tuesday.

The fire broke out shortly before 12:30 a.m. at the Merchants Transfer Company in Mobile, an online update from Mobile Fire-Rescue stated. Crews worked for hours in frigid temperatures to extinguish burning rows of paper stacked four bales high.

One firefighter was hurt while battling the fire. The injuries were considered minor, and the firefighter is expected to recover.

Crews were able to get the flames under control shortly after 4 a.m. Investigators were expected to continue working through the morning to determine the cause of the fire, according to the department.
