About Firehouse
For nearly 50 years, Firehouse has been the trusted source for fire service news, training, leadership development, education and product news.
Founded by FDNY firefighter Dennis Smith in September 1976, Firehouse magazine brought the fire service together to learn from each other and share life-saving skills. Since then, Firehouse has covered fire apparatus innovations, EMS and patient care, politics and legal topics, fire officer development, community risk reduction, health and wellness and much more.
Launched on Christmas Day 1998 by two firefighters, Firehouse.com brought the fire service together when computers were in their infancy. Bringing breaking news from across the country to your screens and building a robust community of firefighters from around the world, Firehouse.com connected those with a passion to improve the fire service.
To help fire departments navigate the fire station building process, 2014 saw the launch of the Firehouse Station Design Conference and Station Design Awards.
Each year, the fire service nominates the best of the best for the Michael O. McNamee Award of Valor and Thomas Carr Community Service Awards. For nearly 40 years, Firehouse has honored firefighters from across the country for their acts of extreme bravery and connecting with their communities to prevent emergencies.
Firehouse works with an advisory board comprised of fire service professionals who direct the topics that Firehouse covers in print, online and at events.
