Apparatus - Showcase: South Hill, Va., Puts Custom Rescue Pumper In Service
The members of the South Hill Volunteer Fire Department have taken delivery of a custom rescue pumper built by KME.The cab and chassis has seating for six occupants and is powered by a Cummins engine and an Allison transmission.
It's equipped with a FoamPro Class A and B system with 30-gallon integrated foam cells. It also has a Will-Burt NightScan light tower with Fire Research Corp. Optimum lights, FRC LED body lights and brow light, and R.O.M. shuttered roll-up doors.
Other equipment includes a 12,000-pound Badlands winch, rope rescue points built into the four upper body corners, EMS storage in the cab, through the tank ladder storage, coffin compartments, a TFT electric deck gun, the interior was done in black Line-X and the compartments were coated in gray Line-X.
The members of the truck committee were Rosser Wells, Alex Graham, Jimmy Walker, Michael Vaughan and Robert Collins. The committee and the department are very proud of the truck and worked hard to develop the specifications and get it into the station.
