Apparatus - Little Compton, R.I., Gets Big New Tanker
Little Compton, R.I., a community surrounded by water on three sides, without a pressurized water system, had a need to replace their existing tanker and pumper. The members of the Little Compton Volunteer Fire Department made a decision to combine the apparatus into one. Using a commercial chassis, a Freightliner M2-106, and Ferrara's extruded body, the unit meets all of the departments requirements.
It has a Cummins ISL 330 hp engine and an Allison 3000 transmission, as well as a Darley 1,500 gpm pump. It also has a UPF 3,000-gallon tank, triple speedlays forward of the pump, and a Trident air primer for drafting purposes. Also, it has 1,000 feet of 4-inch supply hose and 200 feet of 3-inch hose for a ground monitor. A 30-gallon integral foam cell supplies a Foam Pro 2001 system.
