AURORA, Colo. --
A fire engine on the way to a call was hit Monday morning by another vehicle -- one of many crashes that occurred as fog and ice enveloped the metro area.
The fire engine crash occurred around 6:38 a.m. on the frontage road of Interstate 70, said Aurora Fire Capt. Allen Robnett.
Attempting to respond to an emergency call, the firefighter driving tried to use an emergency turnaround on the highway, Robnett said. Another motorist slammed into the back of the truck, leaving one firefighter hurt.
Robnett said the firefighter had minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital. Two people in other vehicles also had minor injuries.
The fire engine and two other vehicles involved in the crash did not sustain heavy damage.
There were about a half-dozen other crashes reported Monday, especially along Monument Hill.
