BOSTON --

An 82-year-old Somerville woman was seriously injured in Cambridge Tuesday when a hose on the side of a fire truck struck her as she was standing waiting for the vehicle to pass.

A Cambridge Fire Department engine was on Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square responding to a call at about 11:40 a.m. One of the truck's hoses became dislodged and began to trail behind the vehicle, according to police.

When the engine turned onto Western Avenue, the trailing hose struck the victim, who was standing on the median island allowing the truck to pass.

She suffered serious injuries to her legs and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Her name has not been released.
