June 19 -- SARASOTA COUNTY, FL -- No injuries were reported after a collision between a Nokomis fire truck and a trailer caused power tools and saws to fly across Tamiami Trail at Laurel Road, according to witness Dan Henry.
Henry, a Suncoast News Network meteorologist, said he witnessed a southbound fire engine with its lights activated coming down the road. A westbound pickup on Laurel Road with a hinged trailer collided with the fire truck. Henry said the trailer was carrying power tools and saws.
Florida Highway Patrol Dispatcher Officer Amy Nunn says a collision occurred between a red Toyota Tundra pickup and a fire engine on the southbound turn lane of Tamiami Trail at Laurel Road. State troopers were dispatched to the scene at 11:22 a.m.
The scene is clear and traffic is flowing, according to Nunn.
FHP is investigating the cause of the crash, the speed both parties were traveling and whether the fire truck was responded to an emergency.
The Nokomis Fire Department could not be reached for comment.
FHP couldn't confirm the spread of power tools and saws after the collision, but videos showed people picking up debris from the road.
