Grant Will Help PA Department Buy 'Top-Notch' Apparatus

April 3, 2019
The Morrisville Fire Company recently received a $200,000 state grant, and the department wants to purchase a 500-gallon rescue pumper with that money.

Volunteers with the Morrisville Fire Co. might soon get a new 500-gallon engine purchased with $200,000 awarded in a state grant last week, three General Assembly members announced.

The company will buy a 2020 Pierce Arrow XT heavy duty rescue pumper with a 500-gallon tank and a 2,000 gallons-per-minute pump, the joint news release from Sen. Steve Santarsiero, D-10, Rep. Perry Warren, D-31, and Rep. John Galloway, D-140, states.

The grant is a low-interest loan through the state's Volunteer Loan Assistance Program administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner to help companies cover costs for equipment and other necessities.

"The service that Morrisville firefighters provide to the community is invaluable and will greatly benefit from the addition of this new engine," Santarsiero said.

"With this loan, the Morrisville Fire Co. can purchase a new fire truck that is as top-notch as the men and women who volunteer for it," added Warren.

The program's website shows 20-year loans are offered for new fire engines meeting current National Fire Protection Association standards for up to $200,000, or half the cost, whichever is less.

"This engine will be a great addition to the Morrisville Fire Co.and reflects my commitment to funding local emergency services," Galloway said.

The Morrisville company covers a 5-square-mile area and answers 450 calls a year on average, the company's website states.
