TN Fire SUV Struck at Scene of Previous Accident
A Tennessee fire SUV was struck by a car while at the scene of a previous crash Wednesday.
Mount Juliet firefighters responded at around 11:45 a.m. to an accident involving a vehicle that had hydroplaned into a wall under an overpass along Interstate 40, the department stated in an online update. That's when another car collided into the back of the department's quick response vehicle, which had stopped to let a firefighter exit while a second firefighter stayed inside.
The car's driver was seriously injured in the crash. The firefighter in the vehicle was evaluated by medics as a precaution but was not injured, the department added.
"Emergency scenes, especially on the Interstate, are very hazardous for first responders, and motorists must always pay attention to the road ahead for emergencies," Fire Chief Jamie Luffman said in a department statement posted online. "Our department's prayers are with the injured motorist who struck the fire vehicle, and I am grateful for all who responded to assist when this incident occurred."
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
