Boston Fire Apparatus Crashes into Bank, Injuring Four FFs

A Boston police officer suffered life-threatening injuries and four firefighters were taken to the hospital following an accident involving a Boston fire apparatus and a police car in Dorchester.

A Thursday morning car crash involving a Boston Fire Department truck left an off-duty police officer with life-threatening injuries and hospitalized four firefighters, authorities said.

The fire truck and the Boston police officer’s car collided around 2:26 a.m. near the intersection of Washington Street and Talbot Avenue in Dorchester, according to a statement from the city’s police department.

The officer was taken to nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, the statement said

The four Boston firefighters were also taken to a local hospital, though their injuries did not appear life-threatening.

WBZ reported the fire truck hit the front of a Bank of America location at the intersection around 2:30 a.m. It is not yet clear what caused the crash.

Around the time of the collision, firefighters were responding to a fire reported at the nearby Charlie’s House of Pizza at 1740 Dorchester Ave.

Boston Fire Department officials said the blaze was extinguished before 3 a.m. and estimated it caused $300,000 worth of damages.

The crash remains under investigation.
