NJ Firefighters Injured When Minivan Collides with Apparatus

Jan. 5, 2021
A Passaic Fire Department apparatus was on its way to an emergency call when it was struck in the middle of an intersection by a Honda Odyssey, injuring three firefighters and the minivan's driver.

Three New Jersey firefighters were injured when a minivan collided with the apparatus they were in as they were responding to a call Sunday.

The incident involving a Passaic Fire Department apparatus happened at about 1 p.m., The Rutherford Daily Voice reports. Firefighters were on their way to an emergency, and they had their flashing lights and sirens on.

As the driver of the apparatus came to a traffic signal, he reduced speed, got the attention of other drivers and then continued forward. That's when a Honda Odyssey passed a stopped vehicle and T-boned the apparatus in the middle of the intersection.

The Odyssey's driver and three firefighters aboard the apparatus suffered injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. Police cited the minivan's driver for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and improper passing, according to the Voice.
