A man suspected of driving intoxicated struck a Texas fire apparatus twice while leading authorities on a brief chase after trying to run down a sheriff's deputy over the weekend.

The incident happened at the scene of a previous accident along Wallisville Road in east Harris County on Sunday, KHOU-TV reports. While directing traffic, a Harris County sheriff's deputy tried to stop a car, but the driver tried to strike the deputy with his vehicle.

The car then crashed into a fire apparatus that had been working the previous accident scene. In trying to escape, the driver struck the apparatus a second time before finally breaking away.

The driver eventually was apprehended and arrested following a chase that lasted several minutes. Lt. Paul Bruce, of the the Harris County Sheriff's Office, told KHOU that the driver will likely be charged with assault on a peace officer, evading arrest and potentially driving while intoxicated.

The deputy directing traffic was not injured by the driver, and no firefighters were hurt in the apparatus crashes.
