Four NC Firefighters Injured in Apparatus Rollover Crash

ASHEVILLE, NC—Four Asheville Fire Department firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a wreck Saturday that left the fire truck they were in on its top.
The crew had finished a call and was en route back to the station on Interstate 26 when the truck crossed the median and rolled into oncoming traffic, according to Kelley Klope, the department's public information officer. No other vehicles were involved.

The crash happened at around 8 p.m. The cause is being investigated by the N.C. Highway Patrol.
AFD Engine Company Captain Scott Mullins tweeted Sunday that the cause was due to "a large piece of furniture in the middle of the highway and the road conditions were icy."
The firefighters were taken to the hospital and released that night, Klope said. One of the firefighters is a Hendersonville resident.
"Thankfully all four firefighters were seatbelted because that probably did save their lives," Klope said.
Part of 1-26 was shut down Saturday night while the crash site was cleaned up.
The department has reserve trucks, and one of those will replace the crashed truck.
