A Shreveport Fire Department captain suffered injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after his rig struck a utility pole on the way back to the station.

A Louisiana fire captain was extricated from an apparatus after the rig was in a single-vehicle accident that knocked out electricity in parts of a neighborhood Tuesday.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. in Shreveport's Mooretown area, KTAL-TV reports. The department's Engine No. 14 was returning to the station when it drove into a ditch and struck a utility pole, according to KSLA-TV.

A fire captain was trapped in the apparatus, and crews needed to cut him out of the rig, KEEL-FM reports. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.

Two other firefighters were aboard the apparatus, and they were in good condition, KSLA reports. It's not clear if they suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital following the crash.

The apparatus suffered heavy damage to the front passenger side in the accident. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

“Shreveport Police Department will be working the accident,” Clarence Reese, Shreveport police's public information officer, told KTAL. “We also have our shop, our on-call shop guy that is here that’ll be taking the truck back to our maintenance facility and doing an investigation as well.”
