An apparatus rollover crash has claimed the life of Raywick Firefighter Brian Hatt.

Hatt, 51, died Monday afternoon of injuries sustained in the wreck last week, WHAS 11 reported.

Hatt, who was driving, was ejected while Firefighter Leonard Winkler, 58, was trapped and seriously injured.

The two were headed to assist Loretto firefighters when the rig veered out of control, hit an embankment and overturned.

Hatt, who served the community for more than 12 years, was known for his leadership, kindness and commitment to protecting lives, Raywick fire officials noted.

“Lieutenant Hatt was more than a firefighter – he was family to all of us at the Raywick Fire Department. His legacy of service and sacrifice will live on in the department and in the hearts of the community he so selflessly served," Fire Chief Herman Riggs wrote in a Facebook message.
