COLONIE, NY—A Maine man is charged with thefts and burglary for crimes including swiping a fire truck, Colonie police said Friday.
Police on Thursday said they arrested the Wallagrass man, 29, for crimes that occurred in October. He had been arrested by another police agency that month for driving a vehicle reported stolen in Fort Kent, Maine, and was arraigned and released.
The same day of his release, while walking in Latham, he allegedly burglarized a town of Colonie training facility and stole firefighting equipment belonging to the state Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services from a building and then stole an Albany Fire Department ladder truck that was at the site for training purposes. The truck was later found abandoned in Schenectady.
The suspect then returned to Colonie, where he was able to steal a vehicle from a car dealership, police said. It was later found in Hartford, Conn. The man was arrested in Hartford on other charges, and was released to Colonie police custody Thursday. He is charged with two grand larceny and one burglary count, felonies, arraigned and jailed pending bail.
