A recently acquired tower went up in flames at Jamesville Community Volunteer Fire station Tuesday evening.
"Firefighters acted swiftly to suppress the fire, prevent its spread to nearby vehicles and equipment, and ensure the safety of all personnel on-site. Mutual aid from neighboring stations was called to assist, and the fire was declared under control within 30 minutes," Jamesville Fire Chief Michael Pierce wrote in a statement posted on the department's Facebook page.
“Thanks to the rapid response of our firefighters, what could have been a much more serious incident was brought under control quickly and safely. We’re thankful there were no injuries, and operations at the station have resumed with some modifications.”
The loss of the rig and equipment was set at $1 million.
The department acquired the used tower six months ago.
