At 9:21 p.m. Manchester firefighters responded to the area of Beech and Green Streets for a reported building fire.
Car 1 was first due and reported heavy fire showing from the second and third floors of a large 3 1/2-story wood-frame structure.
Since the building was vacant, Car 1 ordered a defensive attack with master streams and a second alarm was transmitted.
Truck companies set up master streams while engine companies stretched attack lines and hydrant lines.
Rescue 1's crew conducted a quick search of an exposure on the "B" side and it was clear.
Firefighters attacked the fire with several master streams and exterior handlines until the heavy fire was knocked down and then firefighters transitioned to interior operations for overhaul.
It took firefighters just over an hour to bring the fire under control and the cause remains under investigation.
