Two Chicago FD Employees Injured in Ambulance Crash

The emergency vehicle was carrying a patient when the collision happened, and the accident was one of two crashes this week involving Chicago Fire Department ambulances.

Two Chicago Fire Department employees were among four people injured in an accident with an ambulance that was carrying a patient Wednesday.

The crash between the ambulance and another vehicle happened at around 8:15 a.m. on the city's Southwest Side, the Chicago Tribune reports. The driver of the other vehicle and the patient in the ambulance were taken to the hospital in fair to serious condition and good to fair condition, respectively.

The injured fire department employees were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the Tribune added.

The incident was the second accident this week involving a Chicago ambulance transporting a patient. A Chicago paramedic also was injured in a hit-and-run crash while transporting a patient by ambulance Tuesday

The accident happened at around 1:15 p.m. in the city's Lawndale neighborhood, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The ambulance was traveling south when a Toyota struck the emergency vehicle and then drove off.

The paramedic's injuries were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Rush University Medical Center. The patient in the ambulance was taken to Stroger Hospital.
