An ambulance carrying a patient crashed into a car Friday afternoon in the Washington Park neighborhood, authorities said.
About 1:30 p.m., the ambulance was taking a patient in serious, but not life-threatening, condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center when it made contact with a car near East Garfield Boulevard and South Indiana Avenue, said Larry Langford, Chicago Fire Department spokesperson.
The collision point was the right passenger side of the ambulance and the front of the car, Langford said, adding it wasn’t clear who was at fault.
A replacement ambulance came to the scene to transport the patient to University of Chicago with “no deterioration from the original problem,” Langford said of the person’s condition.
The medic treating the patient in the rear of the ambulance at the time of the crash was also taken to University of Chicago with minor injuries.
The driver of the car declined medical care, Langford said.
Police had no further details.
