Men in Stolen Ambulance Lead Police on Chase in Port Wentworth, GA

June 11, 2025
The ambulance that rammed a Rincon police cruiser ran into a ditch after striking stop sticks.

A crash on a Georgia road turned into anything but routine Monday afternoon.

Two people involved in the wreck took off running.

A short time later, police learned an ambulance had been stolen nearby. It was spotted but the driver didn't stop, WJCL reported.

As police pursued the stolen ambulance for several miles, it struck a Rincon cruiser which caused it to hit a car.

After officers deployed stop sticks, the ambulance veered off the road into a ditch. Two men were taken into custody.

Police have not said if the two knew each other.

Dwayne Simmons, 56, of Savannah, was charged with interference with emergency personnel by threats, hijacking of motor vehicle, aggravated assault, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding driving while his license is suspended and hit and run.

Georgell Brown, 51, who reportedly ran from law enforcement after the initial crash on McCall Road was charged with loitering.
