An ambulance crash left an infant dead and the mother critically injured in Philadelphia early Sunday.

The driver of the Medstar EMS ambulance -- a family member -- may face charges, NBC 10 reported.

The ambulance -- being operated without lights or siren activated -- reportedly ran a red light and was hit in the driver's door by a Honda Accord.

Upon impact, the month-old infant and her mother were ejected through the windshield as the ambulance flipped onto its side. The car veered into a building.

The baby, Marian Harris, was pronounced at 6:17 a.m. by hospital officials while the mother suffered serious head injuries.

The 51-year-old ambulance driver also was injured. The operator of the car refused treatment.

Police reported they were notified of an unresponsive infant at a residence. However, they later learned the mother and infant had left in a private ambulance.

The investigation is continuing.

The District Attorney's Office said Sunday night that no charges have been filed in connection with the crash despite information published earlier by the media.
