Vehicle Hits Blocking Rig Leaving Fountain, NC, Firefighter Hurt
A firefighter was injured Sunday afternoon when his blocking rig was hit by a vehicle at a crash scene on a North Carolina interstate.
Fountain Rural Firefighter Steve Coffman was sitting on the back of a rescue vehicle when it was struck on I-587 in Pitt County. He was knocked off the rig and suffered a fractured wrist.
Fountain Rural Fire Chief Jonathan Landon wrote in a Facebook message his department was assisting Farmville firefighters at a crash "when I heard the words no Chief ever wants to hear. “5406 has been hit with two PI one being a firefighter...”
