Apparatus - Showcase: Hoodland (Ore.) 4X4 Engine 251

Hoodland, Ore., Pumper

Hoodland Fire District 74 recently accepted delivery of Engine 251, a four-wheel drive Pierce with many custom features jammed into its 28-foot length, designed for narrow forest roads and heavy winter snowfall.
The pumper features low crosslays so shorter firefighters can grab the shoulder load from the ground.  And, there’s no need for on-board generator with state-of-the-art LED lighting and lithium ion-powered fans.
EMS kit storage can be found in the cab to  which frees up space elsewhere on the apparatus for other gear.
Tools are stored on hinged overlapping peg boards, creating more space for rescue gear. The pump panel and the engineer’s tools are located behind the same compartment door for efficiency.
Hoodland’s apparatus committee put a lot of work into designing this engine, and Pierce did an excellent job bringing the ideas to fruition.
