Atlanta's New Pumpers to Hit Streets Next Week, Aerial Coming Soon
Five pumpers will go into service next week in Atlanta, months ahead of schedule.
They were expected in late summer, but now they'll be hitting the streets ahead of the World Cup, Deputy Chief David Bohatch told WXIA.
"...With these new engines, we're able to not only enhance our reserve unit fleet, but we're also able to enhance firefighter safety, response times, and reduce maintenance costs in general."
A ladder truck is due to arrive in late August or September.
After union officer recently raised concerns about truck availability, city officials noted there is a rotation as four stations undergo renovations and repairs, as well as some apparatus that "may rotate temporarily out of service for routine maintenance, which is a normal part of managing a fleet of this size."
