A toddler was injured last month while riding in a fire department tanker as it responded to a Pennsylvania house fire.

The White Mills Fire Department tanker veered out of control on a curve, left the road, hit a utility pole and ended up in a ditch in Paupack Township, NEPA News reported Monday.

Pennsylvania State Police said the four-year-old, who was wearing a lap belt, sustained suspected minor injuries.

Firefighter Shane Farrell and the child were picked up at the crash scene before EMS or troopers arrived, reporters were told.

Farrell was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries while no information was obtained about the child's injuries.

Farrell was originally charged with reckless driving, careless driving, driving at safe speed, disregard of traffic lanes, and failure to keep right. However, the citations were withdrawn a week later, court records show.

State police have not said why the charges were dropped.

White Mills Fire Department officials said: “It was handled in accordance to the state police investigation. There was disciplinary action taken. We have no further comment.”
