Brookfield, VT, Rig Totaled after Being Hit on Interstate

The driver in the tanker saw the car coming and braced for impact, Brookfield Fire Chief Robert Coniff said.

While blocking a crash scene on a Vermont interstate, a fire truck was hit by a vehicle.

"The driver was in the truck, but he saw the car coming in the mirror. So, he got himself ready for getting hit. He was fine. He didn't have any damage,"  Brookfield Fire Chief Robert Coniff told mynbc5.

The driver of the Prius that hit the tanker was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries. Two dogs also were hurt, including one critically. They were taken to an animal hospital.

"The Williamstown department has an expert tanker that they're checking with their management in the town to make sure it's alright if we run it right now. Without a tanker, we're in big trouble because we don't have city water and so we have to use portable bags to transport our water."
