New Apparatus Honors Fallen IA Firefighter

Oct. 24, 2019
As part of the traditional push-in ceremony, Clinton firefighters dedicated their new apparatus to Lt. Eric Hosette, who died in a grain silo explosion earlier this year.

A ceremony Wednesday to adopt a new piece of equipment for an Iowa fire department also honored one of its recently fallen members.

The Clinton Fire Department dedicated its new apparatus after Lt. Eric Hosette, who was killed in grain silo explosion earlier this year. The new vehicle—No. 190 for Hosette's badge number—has been dubbed "Hoss," and it's the first time a department apparatus has been named after a firefighter, KWQC-TV reports.

“We dedicated our new ladder truck to Lt. Eric Hosette who had a love for mechanics and building fire trucks,” Battalion Chief Joel Atkinson told the TV station. “He helped us with two other trucks prior to this truck. So we wanted to honor him in this way.”

As part of the dedication, members of Hosette's family and the public joined Clinton firefighters in the tradition of pushing the new apparatus into the station.
