As the call volume increases in West Chester, there's more wear and tear on the trucks across the five fire stations.
"We're short a truck because we had a truck that was involved in a motor vehicle accident. That truck is going to be out for two years for repairs." Fire Chief Rick Prinz told Local 12.
"The mechanics don't have enough time to do more than just a routine service because we have another truck that's broken down and needs to get repairs..."
He said they've borrowed trucks on multiple occasions from surrounding communities.
"We have leased a truck from Fairfield Township Fire Department that's in one of our stations right now," he said, adding that firefighters are not familiar with the rig
So, the best solution is to buy additional trucks.
"The first one is a demo truck from Vogelpohl Fire Equipment,. The other one is a very gently used 2024 E1 truck from Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in West Virginia."
The $1.6 million for the apparatus is coming out the township's tax incremental funding districts.
