Videos: Firefighter Moves Auburn, MA, Pumper Away from Pumps When Rig Catches Fire
An Auburn fire lieutant is credited reacting quickly after their pumper caught fire while getting fuel.
The fire started when the fuel line failed while firefighters were fueling the apparatus at a Shell Station Friday night, igniting a fire below the cab of Auburn Engine 4.
"The Lieutenant jumped in the driver’s seat and pulled the truck out from under the canopy and away from the building. The security video shows when he jumped out of the truck, fire followed him out of the cab," the department shared in a statement the next day, also sharing the video of the pumper being moved away from the pumps.
Other firefighters grabbed fire extinguishers to try and douse the fire while they jumped into the cab to retrieve their PPE, medical equipment SCBA.
Other Auburn firefighters were dispatched to bring the fire under control.
"The crew did a great job preventing damage to the pumps, the building and our own equipment," the department stated.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries in the incident.
