PHOENIX --

Yavapai County authorities believe a fire that claimed two lives in Prescott Valley on Wednesday was intentionally set, according to a news release from the Prescott Valley Police Department.

The fire started at about 6:20 a.m., and it was quickly brought under control; however, firefighters discovered two bodies -- those of a man and a woman -- in the house, police said.

Arson investigators from the Central Yavapai Fire Department; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Prescott Valley police determined that the person who set the fire used an accelerant, police said.

Police are treating the investigation as a homicide, officers said. The Yavapai County Medical Examiner has not released a cause of death for the two victims, who were not identified.
