Fire Closes Highway 190 in Sequoia National Forest

SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST -- A wildland fire discovered Sunday evening continues to burn along Highway 190. The fire known as the Power Fire has burned over 400 acres and is only 15 percent contained. Highway 190 is closed in both directions due to fire suppression crews and equipment working along the road. The fire started along the Tule River near the Stairs on the Western Divide Ranger District, Giant Sequoia National Monument, fire officials said.

A wildland fire discovered Sunday evening continues to burn along Highway 190.

The fire known as the Power Fire has burned over 400 acres and is only 15 percent contained.

Highway 190 is closed in both directions due to fire suppression crews and equipment working along the road.

The fire started along the Tule River near the Stairs on the Western Divide Ranger District, Giant Sequoia National Monument, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Over 200 firefighters are on scene today including 3 helicopters, air attack, 6 hand crews, 5 engines, patrols, water tenders and overhead personnel. An incident command team is expected to arrive this afternoon.
