Off-duty Atlanta Firefighter Shot by Police

Police were called to a home where a man was allegedly pointing a gun at neighbors.

Editor's note: An update from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution confirms that the shooting victim was an off-duty firefighter.

Sept. 08--A man believed to be an off-duty Atlanta firefighter was shot by police Sunday night during an incident in northeast Atlanta.

Channel 2 Action News reported that officers were called around 8 p.m. Sunday to a home on Clifford Avenue where a man was allegedly pointing a gun at neighbors.

"That escalated into the subject that had the gun being shot by Atlanta police," Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci told Channel 2.

The wounded man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the shoulder, and was in stable condition, according to Channel 2.

"That individual shot by police may be an Atlanta firefighter," Guerrucci said. "That's still under investigation."

The name of the officer and of the man shot have not been released.
