Mich. Clinic Refuses to Treat Firefighter Without Photo ID

Jan. 11, 2016
The Dundee Township firefighter, in full turnout gear, was injured at a house fire.

An injured Michigan firefighter was refused treatment at an urgent care clinic because he didn't have a photo ID.

The Dundee Township firefighter was injured when he partially fell through the floor of a house while battling a fire.

Dressed in full turnout gear, he went the Dundee Urgent Care to be checked out, Chief Dan Motylinski told reporters

After he was informed that he couldn't be treated because he didn't have any identification on him, he went to St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor where he was examined for bruises to his ribs and back.

The incident has ruffled the feathers of many including Dundee Village Manager David Uhl, who told a reporter: “As a 40-year law enforcement veteran and current (village) manager in Dundee, I am appalled as to how our fireman was treated at the Dundee Urgent Care facility. My only hope is that this incident comes to the forefront and that it may help all facilities to take a second look at their procedures so as to prevent this from ever happening again."

The chief added that more than 30 years as a firefighter, he has never heard of a uniformed firefighter who suffered injuries while on the job being refused care.
