Veteran TN District Chief Riding Desk After Facebook Rant

July 22, 2016
Nashville District Chief Tim Lankford made comments about Muslims and the LGBT community.

A veteran Nashville fire officer is waiting on the status of his career following a recent rant on Facebook.

District Fire Chief Tim Lankford was placed on administrative leave after officials became aware of his postings about Muslims, gay marriage and the LGBT community, according to WKRN.

In one post, he wrote, "I'm so disturbed about the Supreme Court ruling today I can barely function at my job. What has this country become?"

during a disciplinary hearing last week, he said: "If I had a clearer mind I wouldn't be sitting here. When I said I couldn't function at my job it wasn't because of anything the Supreme Court did it was because I had lost my wife of about 30 years...I don't have any prejudice against anybody," according to published reports.

He went on to tell the board that he had friends on the department who are gay and lesbian.

But, in another post, Lankford threatened: "The first man who goes into the restroom with my daughter will not have to worry about surgery."

In another, he wrote: "Lowe's just gave Muslims the middle finger. I'll be shopping there more often."

In a letter to Lankford, the deputy director said the posts were perceived as racial, stereotypical and/or threatening toward members of the public.

Fire Chief Rick White is expected to make a decision on Lankford's career in the near future.
