A Brook Park lieutenant has been suspended after emergency vehicles were used to hand out candy to children on Halloween.

Firefighters took a pumper, ambulance and another vehicle into the community and stopped to hand out candy to children.

"Well, the problem is they took two-thirds of our firefighting equipment and went out trick or treating," Brook Park Mayor Tom Coyne told Fox8.com. "I can think of no compelling reason that an officer in charge of a shift would take our emergency folks out, whose job is to protect this town, on a trick or treating expedition."

"...they were just coming down and they were stopping at every two or three houses passing out candy," resident Amanda Porch told the television station. "I thought it was nice.”

The ambulance crew stopped handing out candy and rush to an emergency call during the event.

"They're able to multi-task and perform community service at the same time that they're on duty standing by for an emergency," said Northern Ohio Firefighters Association President Scott Maynor.

The lieutenant is still on the payroll while officials investigate what happened on Halloween.
