Man Who Shot AR Firefighter Pleads Guilty

March 30, 2017
Jason Pulaski responded with the East Pulaski FD when he was fatally shot by the man he was sent to help.

Mark Pruitt pleaded guilty in the 2016 shooting death of East Pulaski firefighter Jason Adams.

Adams, 29, responded after a 911 call that reported Pruitt was having seizures inside his home when Adams shot him. Pruitt later said he thought Adams was an intruder.

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Barry Sims sentenced Pruitt to eight years in prison Thursday morning. He will receive some credit for the time he has already spent in jail, ArkansasOnline.com.

Pruitt apologized to Adam's family who attended the hearing, along with East Pulaski volunteers and firefighters from Sherwood Fire Department, where Adams was a full-time lieutenant.

When Adams responded to the call on his street, he was evaluating Pruitt when Pruitt's wife left to help other responders access the home. They heard two booms Adams was shot.

"I blacked out, and the next thing I remember is the flash of the gun going off," Pruitt told investigators.

“We can more forward, hopefully,” Adams’ mother, Phylis Stroud, said.
