April 27 -- At least a dozen Frisco firefighters responded to The Star in Frisco about 10 p.m. Thursday just before Cowboys' first-round pick linebacker Leighton Vander Esch's conference call with the media.
Multiple firetrucks were on the scene because of a smoke smell coming from the Cowboys' primary interview room that is used for the daily Jason Garrett news conferences.
The firefighters took down a few ceiling tiles in the interview room in an effort to find out where the smoke smell was coming from. It was believed to be an electrical issue, although firefighters were still trying to determine what caused the smoke smell as of late Thursday.
The interview room was to be used late Thursday for a news conference featuring Garrett, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones. But the Cowboys were making arrangements to move the interview to another nearby room to accommodate the post-draft news conference.
Firefighters walking around the building asked local media members if they smelled smoke in multiple rooms before focusing more on the primary interview room.
