Firehouse Magazine Donates $5K to TN Mentor Program

Sept. 30, 2019
With Nashville firefighters volunteering as mentors, the BLAZE Mentoring Program gives high school students the support, guidance and resources they need to be successful.

For the second year, Firehouse Magazine donated to a Nashville, TN-based youth mentoring program.

The BLAZE Mentoring Program received $5,000 from the magazine, the publication announced. In the BLAZE program, members of the Nashville Fire Department volunteer as mentors and work with high school students at Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

“The impact of the BLAZE Mentoring Program has deepened, and we are excited about offering scholarship opportunities to the students,” said Kendra Loney, Nashville Fire Department's community services officer. “This donation will allow us to fund the scholarship awards and continue to live out the mission of BLAZE.”

The focus of the BLAZE program is on helping Nashville high school students. Although the hope is that some students consider joining the Nashville Fire Department, the main goal is to give them the support, guidance and resources they need to be successful.

“We are so grateful to Firehouse Magazine for their continued support and donation to BLAZE Mentoring Program,” Nashville Fire Department Director Chief William Swann said. “The Nashville Fire Department has always been committed to doing whatever we can to help the children in our community. This donation to the mentoring program will help ensure BLAZE can continue this important work.”

Firehouse Expo 2019, the lead trade show and expo in the fire service industry, will be from Oct. 8-12 at held at Nashville's Music City Center.
